Tony Bellew vs David Haye 2

Tony Bellew vs David Haye 2

What a night at the o2 Arena for Tony Bellew. A long time in the making but Bellew vs Haye 2 finally got under way on May 5th 2018.

What an honour once again for Suzi Wong to make both fighters fight night outfits.

The Suzi Wong Way

At SW we pride ourselves on going the extra mile for fighters, especially when it is such a big fight.

We went over to see Tony on Tuesday evening at his family home to do the final kit reveal.

As it was such a momentous occasion we made Tony Bellew’s three boys a pair of matching shorts to remember the event by.  We can make kids shorts from new born all the way up and many fighters like to purchase a special gift.

We went for a classic Everton blue velvet trimmed with gold sparkle and Austrian Crystals stars.

Dedicating the fight to Ashley his late brother in law we put this nice and big on the front waistband and back ring jacket in red Swarovski. It was an emotional evening for Tony but what a job he did.

David Haye Boxing Shorts

Getting the fit on David’s shorts was a challenge for us.  We did an original fitting in London at the gym, but then a new protector was purchased and this proved a challenge at the protector was so big.

We had to send down a number of different sample fit shorts, to get the fit right with this very large protector.

After seeing David in Los Angeles at the Linares v Gesta fight we discussed the style he would wear.

David wanted to go back to the old school, and his Union Jack shorts he used to wear.  He wanted an identical style to this down to the old school Hayemaker logo and D.Haye on the back waistband.

The shorts were a white satin shorts, trimmed in sparkle Union Jacks and red tassels with custom logo embroideries.

Last Minute Fight Night Additions

We pride ourselves with always being on hand for special fight night occasions, and this was one of them.

With late calls from both Team Bomber Bellew and Hayemaker for additional logos and a gown being made, we went the extra mile to fulfil these requests.

Waking up to a text message on Saturday morning it was identified by the Hayemaker team that David may need a gown to keep him warm in the ring.   Walking to the ring first, David could be waiting some minutes for the start of the fight and so wanted to be sure, his muscles wouldn’t cool to much with the ring walk.  We went into the studio very early Saturday morning to get a standard shop gown and applied the logos to it.

The gown wasn’t used in the end but it was better to be safe incase it was needed.

Team Bellew, Matchroom and JD sports needed an additional badge applying to Tony’s kit.  We produce some JD badges on the Friday and hand sewed on in the changing rooms fight night.

Tony was very relaxed and enjoying watching the fights prior to his big show down.

What a Fight – Tony Bellew

What a fight it was for us fans!!!

Tony Bellew is a fantastic craftsman in the ring, people forget he won ABA titles and used to KO people for fun in the amateurs.

We have worked with Tony since day one and here you can see a picture of myself and my mum aka Suzi Wong with Tony.  My mum has been making Tony’s kit since his first amateur fight as a young man fighting out of the Rotunda in Liverpool to Creed and World Titles. I was designing Tony’s kit whilst studying Menswear at London College of Fashion and my Dad Johnny Boy, hand cutting to perfection.

It really is such a wonderful journey we have shared with Tony and we are immensely proud of this.

David Haye Legacy

David Haye has been a fantastic fighter and role model to young fighters. Fighting with Adam Booth originally at Cruiserweight he become unified Cruiserweight World Champion and transcended boxing in a way the boxing world dosent often see. He has encouraged and guided fighters such as our very own George Groves and inspired many more.

Now training with Ismael Salas the great legendary trainer, he didn’t look his old self, but he still has the Hayemakers in there.  Suffering many injuries in his long career one does wonder is David continues or goes in to his promotions with the ex Golden Boy promoter Richard Schaefer.

Looking at the likes of Joe Joyce and many more, whatever David decides he has a big futures in the boxing world.

It was always been an honour for SW to work with both fighters, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for both.
