Jack Catterall – A Skilled Southpaw
Jack “El Gato” Catterall is one of the most skilled and determined fighters in British boxing today. Hailing from Chorley, Lancashire, he built a solid foundation in the amateur ranks before turning professional in 2012. Known for his slick southpaw style, precision counterpunching, and relentless work ethic, Catterall quickly climbed the domestic and international rankings.
His early success saw him claim titles such as the Central Area, WBO European, and WBO Inter-Continental light-welterweight belts, proving himself as a dominant force in the division. In 2017, he won the British super-lightweight title, further cementing his reputation as one of the best at 140 lbs.
Catterall’s biggest moment came in 2022, when he stepped up to challenge Josh Taylor for the undisputed super-lightweight championship. Despite many believing he had done enough to win, he was controversially denied victory on the judges’ scorecards. Undeterred, he continued his march towards world honours, securing statement wins against Darragh Foley and Jorge Linares before avenging his loss to Josh Taylor in 2024 with a unanimous decision victory.
In 2025, Catterall faced Arnold Barboza Jr. for the WBO Interim title, narrowly missing out on a win in a hard-fought battle. With his skill, determination, and world-title ambitions still burning strong, Catterall remains a top contender in the division, ready to take on the biggest names in the sport.
