Made in Lancashire: Why Suzi Wong Keeps Production In-House

Published 4 November 2026 Updated 4 November 2026

Every pair of Suzi Wong boxing shorts, and every bespoke piece is designed, cut, sewn and embroidered under one roof in Adlington, Lancashire. That is a decision the business makes every day, and in this  video Melissa, Creative Director, explains why.

A county that made things

Lancashire was a massive hub of manufacturing,” Melissa says, “and we want to keep those skills here in the UK.

For a century and more, this part of the country clothed the world. Mills, cutting rooms and sewing floors were ordinary places to work; the skills passed from one pair of hands to the next. Most of that has gone overseas. Suzi Wong is one of the few fightwear makers that didn’t follow.

Everybody made something here. It’s part of our culture, it’s our heritage.

What “Made in Britain” means on a pair of shorts

Walk into the studio and you’ll see why the label matters. Satin is cut on the table by hand. Each pair is sewn on industrial machines by people who have made thousands before it. Names, flags and sponsors are embroidered in-house on our own multi-head machines, not sent out to a contractor who’s never seen the fighter’s brief.

People recognise the Made in Britain stamp. They understand what that means. It’s been made by professionals, skilled artisans, who uphold the highest level of perfection.

That control is the point. When a fighter’s kit needs to be ready for a Saturday walk-out, there’s no factory on another continent to chase. The pattern, the cloth, the stitching and the embroidery are all within shouting distance of Melissa’s desk.

From idea to walk-out

Every custom pair starts the same way: a fighter’s idea. Some arrive as a sketch on a phone, some as a sponsor’s logo and a colour, some as a full brief from a bespoke design appointment. The design is drawn up on screen, turned into a pattern, cut, sewn, embroidered and checked, then packed and sent, all from the same building.

Made for fighters at every level

The same studio makes walk-out kit for world champions and first-fight amateurs. See the kit we have made in the portfolio.

What it means for you

Because every custom pair starts here, we control the quality and the timing. Custom and bespoke kit takes around four weeks. Design your own shorts in the 3D Designer, or book a bespoke design appointment in the studio or online.

Made in the UK applies to our fightwear: boxing shorts, fight kits, bespoke pieces and the embroidery we do in-house.
