Jorge Linares tops the bill in Broadway It’s been a slow start to the New Year up to now, but this Friday the action really hots up, as one of our favourite boxers, Jorge Linares, laces up his gloves again when he steps into the ring at The Hulu Theatre, New York against Pablo Cesar Cano. Part of a great Matchroom USA card, featuring Demetrius Andrade and Amanda Serrano, Pound 4 Pound superstar Jorge has the chance to work towards another world title shot at his new weight of super lightweight. Fight Week Apparel Having worked with Jorge for a number of years, we always enjoy ensuring he is fully equipped and looking every bit the champion he is. Jorge will be kitted out for the week in The Big Apple, as we have produced a tracksuit, jacket and hat (to protect him from the harsh New York winter weather). Jorge loves wearing our ever popular LGND range, so we have printed the famous Teiken Boxing Gym emblem on the front of our LGND Challenge ¼ zip top, alongside the SW symbol- both in blue. The back of the top houses the lucky number 7 in matching colour, with Linares printed above. The accompanying tracksuit bottoms feature the same Teiken emblem, as seen on the top. We’ve made all of his fight week clothing available for order now The matching rain jacket also houses our LGND branding, with a bespoke blue snakeskin ‘7’ and Linares emblazoned on the back, both below a white Teiken Boxing Gym symbol. The Linares Glacier bobble hat combines a range of blues, grey and white and is completed with our distinctive LGND labelling.   Charlie Edwards aiming to strike Gold and Green  Aside from the huge heavyweight grudge match between Dillian Whyte and Dereck Chisora, Charlie Edwards gets a second opportunity to win a world title when he takes on hard-hitting Cristofer Rosales. Fighting for the prestigious green belt the WBC crown on the undercard in London. Edwards Previous World Title Attempt Charlie fell short in his previous attempt back in 2016, but since then has strung together 5 consecutive wins to put himself back in a position to take on the world’s best. He has definitely grown since then and matured into a much more rounded boxer and has every chance of pulling off the win, which would see him take home the greatest belt in the sport of boxing. Now fighting under the guidance of Grant Smith out of Steel City in Sheffield, Charlie has come on leaps and bounds.  Surrounded by his brother Sunny Ewards with his flashy skills and the Kinsiona brothers, he can’t but learn daily in a thriving gym. WBC Inspired Personalised Boxing Shorts and Ring Jacket As a tribute to the WBC, we have designed custom boxing shorts and ring jacket befitting such a momentous fight in his career. We have produced both the boxing shorts and ring walk jacket using a base material of white wetlook. Both are trimmed with the flags of the world, as seen on the WBC world title belt. The famous green and gold appears either side of the flag trim of both the shorts and jacket, which emphasises our design superbly. The flag pattern engulfs the whole hood of the ring walk jacket also. Real Life Rocky Story  When people begin their journey in boxing, many have aspirations of headlining their own shows and dream of being the main attraction at one of the few boxing ‘Meccas’ in the world. On December 15th, that’s exactly what Rocky Fielding will be doing, when he puts his WBA Super Middleweight title on the line against pound 4-pound superstar Canelo Alvarez at New York’s Madison Square Gardens. The scene of some of boxing’s great fights, including Ali vs Frazier and Lewis vs Holyfield, and to earn the chance to headline at ‘The Garden’ is comparable to a Hollywood film. Rocky has worked his way back from defeat against Callum Smith, to the brink of superstardom and everyone at SW is delighted for him. It’s fair to say we have something spectacular lined up for his fight night attire.   The World is Watching The fight is attracting worldwide attention, with the bout due to be shown across the globe on fight night. In the build-up to the night, we were incredibly pleased to welcome DAZN to our studio for a spot of pre-fight filming, along with Rocky himself. The behind the scenes filming will form a part of the pre-fight build-up, highlighting the work that goes into our design process for such a prestigious fight. We spent time showing them around our Lancashire based manufacturing studio, including highlighting the amount of work all our staff put into ensuring Rocky is fully kitted out and looking the part when he steps into the ring on fight night. Rocky spent time with the crew, discussing all things Canelo and his thoughts on the fight. It was a great experience for us as a company and we really enjoyed working with the crew and Rocky. The weekend that was- Manchester Recap Last Saturday, the British boxing public bid farewell to our long-time client and friend, Tony Bellew, who stepped into the ring for the final time against Olexandr Usyk. It is fair to say that the atmosphere in the Manchester Arena when Z-Cars kicked in was nothing short of spine tingling, with the vast majority backing ‘The Bomber’ superbly. A 20 year long career had all come down to this – a chance to become the undisputed cruiserweight champion of the world. Tony looked resplendent in his blue camo and velvet shorts, taking the early rounds comfortably as he boxed beautifully on the back foot. Despite this, we saw why Usyk has such a fearsome reputation as the rounds continued to tick by. Round 4 and 5 saw the Ukrainian increase the pace and pressure, looking the land his left hand. It was the shot that unfortunately saw the contest come to an end. The sheer power in the shot dropped Tony heavily, leaving the referee with no choice but to wave it off. It wasn’t the outcome we had all hoped for, however everyone at SW feels nothing but immense pride for a man who ended his journey in the sport, how he has always travelled it. He’s never backed down from a challenge and has taken on all comers, even at a few days notice. We wish Tony well in his retirement and know he will look back on a career that has fulfilled his wildest dreams and proved so many doubter wrong. We also had the pleasure of supporting Anthony Crolla on the undercard on Saturday night. Daud Yordan proved to be a troublesome opponent at times, with his non-stop pressure and come forward style of fighting making for an eye catching

Tony Bellew – Time to go to war Since setting out on his boxing journey, it is fair to say that Tony Bellew has proven many people wrong and in his words has ‘made the best of a bad hand’. During an amateur and professional career which has spanned 20 years, he has won 3 consecutive ABA titles, British, Commonwealth, European and World titles, as well as beating the imperious David Haye – twice. For the majority of boxers, that would be enough and they could walk away from the sport and into the sunset delighted with their achievements. Knowing Tony, having been making his fight wear since day 1, it was no surprise however, that he has taken up the ultimate challenge of fighting the fearsome Olexandr Usyk, despite the honours he has won. This fight promises to be a war of attrition and test both men like never before, which is why we have decided to design Tony’s shorts using a camo theme, signifying the battle that lies ahead. We visited Tony at home a couple of weeks ago, to run through the ideas and presented two separate short designs to him. The first of the two designs is a blue camo satin short, trimmed with beautiful white velvet and gold leather stars. The front waistband contains the name of Tony’s late bother-in-law Ashley, in bold Austrian Crystals red crystals, a tribute to him and his love for Liverpool FC. ‘Bomber’ adorns the back of the waistband in vibrant gold leather, as a nod to this gold medal match up. The shorts are completed by a compulsory Everton FC crest and tribute to the late ‘Albo’, Tony’s boxing mentor from the start of his career. The second design is very much Everton orientated, with a royal blue velvet

It’s been a manic few weeks for everyone at SW, with a lot of our work focused on the Usyk vs Bellew card on Saturday, with two pairs of shorts designed and produced for Tony alone. Anthony Crolla vs Yordan Another boxer we have always worked closely with, Anthony Crolla, also features on the same card. As well as launching the brand new Crolla LGND Range in the last couple of weeks, we have also produced a dazzling fight night kit for Anthony, for his WBA World Title eliminator against Daud Yordan. The base of the shorts is a studded black leather, trimmed with silver leather panelling and a satin turquoise rose pattern. The same rose pattern continues onto the back waistband, down the panelling on the back of the shorts. Austrian Crystals crystals have been used to spell out ‘MCROLLA’ on the front of the waistband in two contrasting colours. MCR is written in vibrant turquoise, emphasising Anthony’s pride at his Manchester roots, with OLLA in bold silver. A matching turquoise dollar sign is beautifully stitched onto the front of the shorts, as well as a poppy in tribute to fallen service men and women, on what will be Remembrance Weekend. To complete the design, a Manchester Bee has been placed on the back, remembering the lives of those lost in the Manchester Arena terrorist attack last year. Anthony’s ring walk jacket uses the same black studded leather as a basis for the design, with the satin roses and silver panelling also featuring similarly to the shorts. The zip of the jacket is trimmed in silver leather, with the million dollar sign and poppy emblem on the left breast. The back features MCROLLA stitched to match the same wording on the waistband of the shorts and a Manchester Bee

Turbo time in New Orleans as The World Boxing Super Series come to town The boxing season continues to spoil us again this weekend, with our very own Terry Turbo Flanagan heading to New Orleans hoping to dethrone WBC Super Lightweight World Champion, Regis Prograis.  In the latest instalment of the World Boxing Super Series.  A win for “Turbo” would not only confirm his place in the semi-finals, it would make him a two weight world champion,  in one of the sports hottest divisions in world boxing. Prograis, the hometown favourite, has New Orleans emblazoned across his chest, emphasising his loyalty and pride towards his birthplace. Terry also shows great pride in where he is from, which we have replicated with his boxing shorts design for the fight. Trimmed with electric lime green trim, the shorts have a base of black satin boxing shorts, with the right leg covered with a vibrant smoke effect blue pattern, a nod to Manchester’s industrial past. The real elegance of the design is exaggerated by the use of thousands of Austrian Crystals crystals, individually placed both on and around the blue smoke and also on the waistband embroidery name, spelling out Turbo. To celebrate the love Terry has for his roots, the Manchester City badge rests proudly over the backdrop of blue, completing the shorts beautifully. The design will definitely bring even more jazz to the birthplace of that genre of music. Brits to Sparkle and Shine Stateside This Saturday sees another entertaining, world-class card take place, with Matchroom USA taking over the TD Gardens Arena in Boston. The card contains 3 world title fights with Tevin Farmer defending his IBF Super Featherweight Title against James Tennyson.  Demetrius Andrade battling Billy Joe Saunders stand-in, Walter Kautondokwa and Irish sensation Katie Taylor defending her two lightweight world titles against Cindy Serrano. In what promises to be an entertaining night of boxing action, two of British boxing’s favourites will also feature on the card, with us being tasked at kitting them out for the occasion. Scott Quigg Former Super Bantamweight World Champion Scott Quigg, continues his march towards another world title shot, as he faces off against Mexican challenger Mario Briones. To ensure Scott dazzles both in and out of the ring, we have produced a black on black boxing short and ring jacket. The elegant black leather and accompanying black snakeskin side panels are emphasised by a subtle gold Mexican trim. The shorts are finished off with hundreds of stunning gold Austrian Crystals crystals that adorn the waistband, spelling out Scott’s name. We have also produced a matching, sleeveless, collared ring walk jacket, using the same materials and sharp gold trim. To complete the ensemble, Scott will also be wearing our black and gold boxing socks, ensuring full comfort and support, throughout his fight. Tommy Coyle Also kitted out in an in-house, a custom designed piece will be Tommy “Boom Boom” Coyle, who takes on tough American, Ryan Kielczweski. Tommy is fighting outside of the UK for the first time in his career and it was only right that his shorts and ring walk jacket are befitting of the occasion. With a colour scheme brief of red, white and blue, we opted to celebrate

Lewis Ritson Returns Ritson’s ability to dismantle opponents has proven to be unforgiving and unrelenting once he smells blood. If he stops his Belgian opponent this weekend with the same brutality we have seen over the last 12 months, the ‘Sandman’ will no doubt be knocking on the door of some familiar British and world lightweight talents. Robbies Davies Jr vs Glenn Foot The undercard is stacked full of great domestic talent, with chief support and potential fight of the night contender being Suzi Wong regular Robbie Davies Jr vs Glenn Foot for the British Super Lightweight title. Fighting for the famous Lord Lonsdale Belt always seems to capture the imagination of boxers and fans alike, bringing out that extra 1%, which is the difference between winning and losing and in this case, cementing part of a legacy for years to come. Both fighters believe they will be victorious, so expect fireworks from the 1st Round. Make sure you keep your eye out for the custom design boxing shorts Robbie will be sporting during the fight, along with his ring walk apparel. We believe we have captured the essence of the occasion and supplied a bespoke piece, befitting a fight of this magnitude. Tony Bellew vs Oleksandr Usyk – The Cruiserweight Fight of 2018 ‘He Who Dares’ Tony Bellew vs Oleksandr Usyk On 10th November 2018 Tony Bellew will take on the undisputed world cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk at the Manchester Area. The fight has already been described as “the fight of 2018” by promoter Eddie Hearn. Oleksandr Usyk is the firm favourite to beat Bellew, but we think there could be an upset here. Tony has already gone on record to say that he’ll have to get a divorce unless this is “…the last one” in a recent press conference (Sky Sports). At Suzi Wong we know Tony will do everything he can to end his career on a high.
