“Born to Box”
Shabaz ‘Maverick’ Masoud made his professional boxing debut in 2018. “I come from the city of Stoke On Trent and want to make a name for myself and do everyone proud. Growing up I was born to box, my youngest memories were of me in the gym with my father who has always helped coach me. I started boxing at the age of 4. Growing up one of the biggest reasons why I took up boxing was because I wanted to channel my energy into something positive because growing up there were so many distractions and negativity around me but I stayed true to my vision and still on that path.”
We love working with Shabaz Ali, as one of our official ‘Brand Ambassadors’, we are excited to see what the future holds for him.
Shabaz Masoud Interview
Below we catch up with Shabaz Masoud about what inspired him to be a fighter and where he sees himself in 5 years;
Where you are from?
Stoke On Trent.
What age did you started boxing?
Amateur Boxing Club?
Most of my amateur career I spent at the Wellington boxing academy which is owned by my Uncle Mo Fiaz and we have great coaches there including former world champion Richie Woodhall.
Where you train now?
I am currently training with my father in Stoke On Trent.
Where you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years time I want to be world level or pushing towards world level because I know what I’m capable of.
Favourite Suzi Wong kit?
My favourite Suzi Wong kit is the one I’m having for the next fight and I don’t wanna say too much because it’s going to look amazing however I’ve always had my kits from Suzi Wong and it’s always fun going and designing a new kit for each fight.
My favourite fighter right now is Terence Crawford, his boxing IQ and his mindset is amazing.
AJ or Tyson?
If Tyson Fury boxed Anthony Joshua I personally think either Fury schools him or even knocks him out, people don’t understand how good Tyson is, the man is a genius in that ring.
My dream fight personally would have to be against anyone for a world title, that’s my end goal in boxing because I know I’d sacrifice my whole life one day to lift that strap above my head.
Most memorable fight?
One of the most memorable fights to date probably was Naseem Hamed vs Kevin Kelly because that fight had everything, an amazing build up amazing entrance from Naz and to top things of the fight was a war and then Naz just ended it with one shot.
